How Bakkal.ae Approaches Sustainability

We don't claim to have solved sustainability. What we can tell you is how we actually approach it: specifically, transparently, and based on the practical steps we take throughout our operations.

Responsible Sourcing

We work with established Turkish producers that operate according to recognised food safety and quality standards. These are companies that have operated for decades, with production standards that aren't marketing language. They are operational requirements for companies selling into regulated markets across Europe, the Gulf, and beyond.

As their UAE importer, our role is to maintain those standards through the supply chain. That means correct documentation, proper import procedures, and storage conditions that match product specifications. Our goal is to ensure products are transported, stored, and delivered according to the specifications provided by the manufacturer.

We do not source from grey-market channels or accept products without full import documentation. Authenticity isn't just a brand claim here. It's a supply chain requirement.

Cold-Chain Integrity

Fresh and chilled products: dairy, white cheese, kaymak, cold cuts, and fresh vegetables, are handled through temperature-controlled logistics from our store to your door. Our refrigerated delivery vehicles and dedicated cold-storage facilities help maintain product quality throughout the final stage of the supply chain. This reduces spoilage, extends product usability, and means fewer failed deliveries or wasted orders. It's better for customers, and it's the right way to handle food.

Long-Life and Pantry Products

A significant part of our range consists of shelf-stable products: loose-leaf and bagged teas, ground coffee, pulses, rice, preserved olives, jams, sauces, and pickles. Long-life products generate considerably less food waste than ultra-fresh alternatives. They give households flexibility: buy what you need, store it properly, use it when the recipe calls for it.

We actively encourage customers to build a well-stocked Turkish pantry rather than making frequent, small purchases. It is a more practical and less wasteful way to shop.

Supporting Local Demand Planning

We carefully forecast demand and import products based on expected customer needs. This helps reduce overstocking, minimise unnecessary waste, and ensure products reach customers while freshness and shelf life remain at their best.

Delivery Consolidation

Our delivery model works through scheduled time slots, which allows our team to consolidate routes by area. Slot-based scheduling means fewer individual ad hoc trips across the city. Our temperature-controlled vehicles run planned routes rather than on-demand reactive ones, helping reduce unnecessary travel, improve delivery efficiency, and optimise fuel usage.

Packaging

We work with our supplier brands to minimise unnecessary outbound packaging. Our delivery packaging prioritises product protection over presentation, particularly for chilled items where insulation matters more than aesthetics. Where practical, we also encourage the use of recyclable packaging materials and work with suppliers that share a similar commitment to reducing unnecessary waste. If your order arrives in functional packaging rather than premium unboxing, that is a deliberate choice.

An Honest Note

We are a food importer and online retailer. Our footprint includes international shipping from Turkey to the UAE, refrigerated storage, and last-mile delivery across Dubai. We are honest about that. What we focus on is operating those functions as efficiently as possible and partnering with producers who operate responsibly. Reducing waste, maintaining product integrity, and continuously improving the efficiency of the supply chain areas we can directly influence are the priorities that guide how we run the business.
